On the 6th of February 1840, the Treaty of Waitangi was signed by rangatira Māori and representatives of the Crown.

In 2020, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei in conjunction with Auckland Council will commemorate the occasion with a free, fun and informative day out at Ōkahu Bay, Ōrākei.

This free community and family-friendly event will feature fantastic NZ musicians live on the main stage and complemented by a range of onsite delicious food stalls, arts and crafts stalls and interactive games activities and exhibitions for kids and the whole whānau.

We pride ourselves on enforcing a strict smoke, drug, alcohol-free and zero waste focus. Para kore and security marshals will be on site to support this whānau-friendly day.

With our event conveniently placed right by Ōkahu Beach, we encourage you to bring your togs (swimming wear). As well as being able to enjoy the cooling waters of the Waitematā, Watercare bottle stations will also be a source of water on the day. No need to buy water, just bring your water bottles.

Once again, we (Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei) are proud to be partnering with nib health insurance to bring the Hauora (Health) Village to this year’s Waitangi Day event. There will be a range of free services onsite, including screenings, dental checks and plenty more. No better time than Waitangi Day for a free health check-up e te whānau.

The car park this year is managed by ngā whānau o te Puna Reo Okahukura. This is a fundraising initiative for our tamariki and therefore a small cash fee is asked of each car wishing to park. The fee is $5.00 and after 1:30pm, a gold coin donation.

Bring a picnic blanket along and set yourself up in front of the stage, and enjoy a quintessential Aotearoa summer’s day.

The day will begin with a pōwhiri (māori welcoming ceremony) at 10am.
So come along early to score yourself an awesome spot. See you there!

E mihi ana ki ngā kaihāpai i te rā (a huge shout of to our sponsors): Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, Auckland Council, nib Health Insurance, MaiFM and Watercare.
