Grab a book, pull up a seat and relax in Wellington's outdoor reading room this summer! A five-week-long celebration of books is taking over Te Ngākau Civic Square from 12 February to 14 March.

Browse through the regularly-updated range of books, newspapers and magazines or get creative with crayons and colouring fun from the City Gallery.

The decommissioned books have been kindly donated by Wellington City Libraries, so you're welcome to take them home if you find something you can't put down. With comfy chairs, bean bags, outdoor umbrellas and a large activity table, this is the perfect space to spend a lunchtime or a sunny afternoon with a good read in hand.

The Outdoor Reading Room will also be hosting a range of book related events over the next five weeks, including:

Pre-School Storytime - Wednesdays 10.30am – 19 Feb, 26 Feb and 11 Mar
Join us for stories and songs thanks to the team at Wellington City Libraries. Storytime runs for half an hour and is aimed at pre-school age children but younger siblings are always welcome!

Baby Rock n Rhyme - Wednesday 10.30am – 4 Mar
A fun and educational programme for parents and carers to interact with their babies through songs and stories. Rhyme, rhythm, repetition and music are the building blocks of language for babies.

Grown-up Storytime - Fridays 12pm - 21 Feb, 28 Feb and 6 Mar
Settle in and enjoy Grown-up Storytime with Jean Sergent. The local actor and author, well known for her work with The Bacchanals, in Burn Her at Circa Theatre in 2019, will be reading passages from a selection of Aotearoa and International books to coincide with New Zealand Festival of the Arts' Writers programme 22 Feb - 15 March 2020.

Bloom by Capital E - Friday and Saturday 10am – 13 and 14 Mar
Is it a dinosaur, a spaceship, a chandelier, a cloud? The Capital E Bloom, consists of thousands of identical pink pieces that let children and big kids connect, construct and deconstruct 3D installations with no boundaries or rules.

We'll be open 10am - 3pm, Wed - Sat until 14 March, as long as the sun is shining! Follow our Facebook Event for regular updates and weather cancellations.
