World-renowned paleontologist, Professor Phil Manning, takes you on a journey from the first discovery of fossil bones to the ‘invention’ of dinosaurs in Victorian Britain.

From the evolution of this extraordinary group of animals to explore the impact dinosaurs have had on the way we view life on Earth. Phil will take a closer look at how 21st Century technology has been changing the way we locate, map, excavate, prepare, reconstruct, and study the fossil remains of dinosaurs.

He will also touch upon the events that marked the end of the reign of dinosaur and explore if our understanding of the KPg mass-extinction event holds some secrets that might be applicable even today.

Phil will be joining us via video from the UK.

Professor Phil Manning is Chair of Natural History and Director, Interdisciplinary Centre of Ancient Life at the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences at the University of Manchester, UK.

When invited to speak Phil said: "I've spent the last 30 plus years exploring the world and digging up dead things, so I thought I'd give a talk called "Why Dinosaurs"!
