World First Te Reo Maori Fly In

Ruatoria is taking Te Reo to new heights!

In a world-first, the tiny East Coast township is hosting the first Te reo flying (effectively the aerial version of a car rally) at the Ruatoria aerodrome. Aviation enthusiasts from around the country will converge on the aerodrome to mark the 60th anniversary of the Ruatoria aeroclub. And for those who use Te Reo correctly on the radio, a free landing is in store.

As part of the birthday celebrations, a prize-giving will honour aviation heroes who contributed to the East Coast. Demonstrations and displays will be provided by Police, FENZ, the NZ Defence Force and the new Tairawhiti Trust Rescue Helicopter. Visiting aircraft will be on display including a Tiger Moth and a Harvard. The event is open to the public with special ticketing for those who intend to fly in and stay.
