Celebrate 128 years of women's suffrage for Aotearoa New Zealand at Kate's home and garden, with a coach tour to the city memorial event.

Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga invites you to join us on this special day at Kate Sheppard’s former home.

Suffrage celebration day: 10.00am - 2.30pm.
Enjoy a guided tour of the house, morning tea and a coach tour past significant city sites before attending the Kate Sheppard National Memorial Event. The event is organised by the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women. Opening address by Hon. Lianne Dalziel, Mayor of Christchurch, with Guest Speaker Hon Sarah Pallett MP Ilam. Please bring a flower, a white camellia if possible. Afterwards, we will return for a celebratory light lunch in Kate's garden.

Explore Kate's home, the epicentre of Aotearoa New Zealand's women's suffrage movement and learn more about the lady at the centre of it all.

Stand in the dining room where the pages of the 'monster' petition were pasted together before being sent to parliament.

Stroll in the idyllic spring garden, where Kate received the telegram advising her that women had been granted the vote.

This Category 1 listed property is one of our nation’s most significant social and political landmarks, and is the perfect place to celebrate 128 years of women's votes.

Guided house tours will start at 10.00am and 10.30am, with the coach departing at 11.00am.

Afternoon entry and lunch: 1.15pm - 2.30pm
For those of you heading directly to the Kate Sheppard National Memorial Event (159 Oxford Street, Christchurch Central) at 12pm, you can still join the festivities at Te Whare Waiutuutu Kate Sheppard House afterwards.

Book the 'Afternoon entry and lunch' tickets to enjoy lunch in the garden and a self-guided tour of the house.

You will need to make your own way to Te Whare Waiutuutu Kate Sheppard House from the city.

There is no parking onsite at Te Whare Waiutuutu Kate Sheppard House, so please find a park in the surrounding streets or at the University of Canterbury's Clyde Carpark on Arts Road (free on weekends and just a few minutes' walk).
