A Progression of Poets comes to Hastings!

You pick your venue - grab your FREE ticket and stay put and the poets come to you! This listing will get you tickets for Spaceship Performing Arts venue, 118 Karamu Road. Starts promptly at 6.30pm.

As part of the National Poetry Day shenanigans Hawke’s Bay Readers and Writers Trust have planned an extravaganza of beautiful minds wandering the streets of Hastings like the bards of old.

Hastings East is to be treated to A Progression of Poets in which the audience make themselves cosy in one of three locations at Hastings Distillers, Common Room and Spaceship whilst pairs of poets rotate around the venues to entertain, confront, inspire and provoke.

The Bay is of course the centre of the creative universe so local poets are pairing with national bards to welcome them into our world.

Jeremy Roberts, widely published in the NZ Listener, Landfall, Takahe, JAAM, Poetry NZ, and Phantom Billstickers teams up with Glenn Colquhoun, poet, doctor, winner of a Montana Book Award, recipient of the Prize in Modern Letters and a Fulbright scholar.

Rosheen Fitzgerald, 2019 Hawke’s Bay Poetry Slam Champion, Goddess, Warrior, Witch joins Tayi Tibble, indigenous writer and poet based in Te Whanganui a Tara. She writes columns for Re: News and Metro and works part-time as a publicity assistant at Victoria University Press.

Nafanua Kersel, 2020 Hawke’s Bay Poetry Slam Champion, writer, reviewer, poet of power, hangs out with Ruby Solly (Kāi Tahu, Waitaha, Kāti Māmoe), writer, musician, taonga pūoro practitioner published in Landfall, Starling and Sport and author of Tōku Pāpā, published by Victoria University Press.

This will be a night to be cherished. Sit back, relax in some of the Bay’s warmest, most welcoming environments and let the poets transport you.

A Progression of Poets is a free event brought to our community by Hawke’s Bay Readers and Writers Trust. Tickets are needed as space is limited.
