Wind your way uphill to one of Wellington’s most iconic landmarks – the Baring Head/ Ōrua-pouanui lighthouse at East Harbour Regional Park.
Take in sweeping views from high above the rocky coastline, swamplands, and native beech forests brimming with indigenous plants and birdlife. Don't forget to pack your camera so you can capture the views from the region's most coveted vantage point.

You’ll hear the stories behind this historic site from Friends of Baring Head, who are working hard to preserve and restore this landmark. You’ll also get a chance to see NIWA’s climate station!

To get to the lighthouse you are welcome to walk or mountain bike. We’ll provide 4WD shuttles for the steeper bits of the journey, meaning anyone can get involved!

Please note that this event is not suitable for young children. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Brought to you by Greater Wellington Regional Council.
