The stars will align and descend on Huntly International Speedway at 5:30 pm on the 17th of April for the Bryce Townsend Memorial night.

This meeting is being conducted in memory of Bryce Townsend with the blessing and support of the extended Townsend family.

Bryce Townsend was one of the most significant open-wheel personalities ever in New Zealand. His absolute passion for the sport and bringing young drivers through the ranks was second to none and this meeting celebrates his life following the tragic loss of his life one year ago. This Memorial event will only ever happen once and it will be a night that showcases his love of the sport with a number of guests speaking throughout the night who will recount many stories they shared with Bryce over the years.

The main event will be the BT40, a Forty lap midget race with an $8000 purse. A high-quality field is already confirmed to turn on a fitting show with current NZ Champion Hayden Williams heading the list, along with 2NZ Ryan Baker and 3NZ Max Guilford confirming their attendance. Other big names who always turn on the fireworks include Brad Mosen and Zach Daum accompanied by at least 25 other top Midget stars.

Support categories will be the classes Bryce enjoyed and nurtured. TQs will feature with a strong contingent already confirmed. Bryce was NZ champion in TQ’s several times and this class was key in setting the foundations for his career in Midgets in which he also won the prestigious International 50 Lapper at Western Springs. Also on the card are F2 Midgets, V8 Wingless Sprintcar Demonstrations and the two feeder classes for introducing young drivers into the sport - Quarter Midgets and Mini Stocks. The last two classes are part of this event as Bryce spent much of his time encouraging and nurturing young drivers into these classes with many progressing to the major league Open Wheel classes.

We extend a warm welcome to anyone who went on the USA BT tours over the years and anyone who had a go in the BT Midget Drive experience. Bryce’s Family, Friends and Sponsors will all be trackside and we welcome everyone along to be part of this fantastic night.
