The Nobel Prize in Chemistry is a very esteemed honour and in 1908 was awarded to Ernest Rutherford "for his investigations into the disintegration of the elements, and the chemistry of radioactive substances". He was the first Oceanian Nobel laureate.
The Nobel Prize is five separate prizes that, according to Alfred Nobel's will of 1895, are awarded to ”those who, during the preceding year, have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind.”
