Cantores Choir (OUSA) is holding a short charity fundraiser in the Dunedin Railway Station Foyer on Thursday June 3, starting at 18:30 for 45 minutes.
The performance will include an array of songs from around the globe and across the ages.
Works include:
- a set of folksongs from Japanese composer Satoshi Suto,
- Palestrina’s Tu es Petrus,
- Acapella Requiem from Verdi's Requiem,
- Holst’s I love my love and
- a King’s Singers arrangement of the Beatle’s classic, Yesterday.
The choir managed to continue last year doing online rehearsals, including an online Anzac day tribute during the national lockdown or holding smaller practices, having many starts and some unfinished business.
The pieces chosen reflect the challenges of the past year.
A feature piece will be a choral arrangement by UK composer and choir director Jonathan Rathbone of the pop song ‘Streets of London’. We will use this work to pay tribute to all those involved in events globally who remain unable to perform or ply their craft.
Cathy Highton-Sim is the soprano soloist with Cantores on the evening and will also present solo items.
Entry is by gold coin or larger donation or a can or toy for donating to a local food bank and mental health support services.
Seating will be provided.
