Discover how to use the same software as the experts!

Learn to build games the hands-on way, using a free game development application used by game developers all over the world.

Put your spin on the classic side-scroller, learn how to build levels, and leave with a playable game of your very own.

This workshop is intended to be a fun, supportive introduction to game development, and an opportunity to learn about how games are made for people all over the world at an established New Zealand studio.

Suitable for ages 13-16 years old.

Facilitated by Sam Fleury and Alex Galbraith.
Sam is a fresh-faced, old-soul developer and designer at award-winning Dunedin studio Runaway Play, with a focus on narrative and user experience design. He has given talks about creativity and wellbeing in gamedev at NZGDC and the University of Otago, and is a big dork for disco and house music.

Alex is a lover of all things video games. Inspired by flash games, he started programming games as a teen and is still going strong a decade later. With a love for education and community, Alex enjoys sharing his knowledge and inspiring youth to follow their passion in a rapidly expanding industry.
