Join us for the first meet-up of technical and creative minds to explore different ideas and potential projects in the planetarium, fisheye, and VR formats.

We welcome anyone with ideas or interests ranging from architecture, music, film, arts, digital development or any other applicable disciplines to come together, discuss ideas and meet like-minded people of all skillsets – technical and creative.

There will planetarium sessions to see how our digital dome works, plus rolling discussions in our Beautiful Science gallery – a gallery equipped with floor to ceiling projection capability – to introduce you to the systems and how to create compatible content, as well as showcase a couple of existing projects and answer questions. We invite anyone with an interest in bringing equipment (VR/3D scanning or anything else) to email oana.jones@otagomuseum.nz to arrange this.

In this session, we will have featured project overviews from Ian McGee, Emmy award-winning writer and director of the planetarium show Zealandia – Life on the Hidden Continent, Dr Steven Mills to discuss computer graphics interfaces in the Beautiful Science Gallery and Dr David Goodwin who will discuss his use of the planetarium to visualise and assess the significance of Polynesian standing stones at important epochs, and to arbitrate on Arthur Ransome’s use of literary license when he wrote about astronomy and astronavigation.

Note: This session will include meet-up time in the Beautiful Science Gallery as well as access to the planetarium. The Museum's doors will only be open until 5:30pm so please ensure you arrive before then.
