Two days of jewellery making in sterling silver with Manawatu based jeweller Vaune Mason.

Learn to make wearable precious rings, set with stones or adorned with metal details, hand-crafted by you!

Over two days Vaune will guide you through the process of ring-making. There will be set projects for beginners, to keep things achievable and simple, and a little more flexibility for those who have some experience.

Beginners will learn to cut, heat and shape rings using copper or brass sheet to begin, then swiftly move onto working in sterling silver. They will be guided through the process of creating a beautifully textured and finished silver ring (or rings) over the weekend.

More Intermediate students and any who have relevant experience to be able to keep up with the stone setting projects, will be guided through crafting a simple bezel setting for a stone on their ring.

More advanced students may have more flexibility with their projects, however the needs of the class will be balanced with a focus on ensuring all students achieve a good level of finish and a beautiful end product.

The class is designed for complete beginners to jewellery making to work with the tutors’ supervision and create their project. Those with some experience will also benefit greatly from this course as they can advance their setting and soldering skills under Vaune’s expert guidance.

Course fee is $320. All materials for the basic rings and settings are provided. There will be a selection of semi-precious stones to choose from. If you opt to make something a little larger or with a slightly more costly stone you may do so and simply pay the difference after your materials allowance is deducted.

Due to constraints on time and tools (as we bring the workshop with us) projects for this class are set by Vaune, but there is still plenty of room for personalisation. Bezel setting is an ideal technique to learn for those who may want to learn to work on their own at home.
