Tropical Forest Demonstration
Tūhura is home to more than butterflies! Get up close and personal with the newest residents of the Tropical Forest: giant African millipedes and goliath stick insects.
These fascinating creatures are unlike the insects we see in our backyards in Otago and will amaze children and adults alike.
Giant African millipedes can grow up to 33 cm and have 250 legs. The Science Communicators will bring them out, and you might even get to touch one! The goliath stick insects can grow up to 20 cm, ours are just babies, so you will get to see how big they get by the holidays!
Tūhura Tropical Forest is an immersive experience full of all kinds of flora and fauna. Our Science Communicators will tell you all sorts of interesting facts about all of the creatures living there, and we can't wait to show you our newest (and largest!) denizens!
