A guided walk around the Eureka mining settlement (home to over 100 people in the late 1800s), and mining sites in the Moanataiari and Kuranui valleys.
The guided tour will take participants up Moanataiari Creek Road to the Mountain Bike track car park; then follow the metalled road up the Eureka Hill spur to the mountain bike picnic area; then follow the loop track to the edge of the Shotover valley before returning to the Thames Goldmine Experience car park via Eureka Road, the Shotover Mine site and Tookey’s Flat. Along the way historic locations will be pointed out and reference made to the illustrated guide [issued as part of the ticket fee]. Features include the Caledonian mine site, Messenger’s Hill, stamper battery sites, the Ross homestead location, the Shotover Mine and the Kuranui Battery site, amongst others.

Gear: Good hiking footwear is recommended, as is water, the application of sunblock, and suitable clothing for outdoor activities on a sunny and hot day. Bring your mobile phone in case of emergency.
