Following on from our January meeting, Growing cacti and succulents from seed, our February meeting will be a demonstration and workshop on grafting.
Demonstration: We’ll demonstrate a couple of simple techniques for grafting and give a brief talk on what it is we’re doing and why it’s a “must-have” skill for cactus growers! You’ll learn about the choice of rootstock and how to prepare both the rootstock and scion (the cactus you’ll graft on top of the rootstock), and how to make sure they join together successfully.
Workshop: There is no cost to take part in the workshop, but you’ll have the choice of bringing your own rootstock and scion, or we will have limited numbers of rootstocks and scions available ($10 per rootstock, or $15 for a rootstock and scion). We’ll have razor blades, craft knife blades, and rubber bands available, along with alcohol to sterilize the blades. We’ll need to know how many of you wish to take part, so we can set up enough tables, and please let us know if you intend to bring your own rootstock and scion or purchase one. We may have a few different choices for scions, so register your interest now and we’ll update you soon with what’s available.
New members and visitors welcome.
