Jennifer Huebert
Sea Habitué
Adventures in freediving

Opening Saturday 1 May 2-4 pm.

The ocean is a vast and vibrant place. Aquatic life is in constant motion, and creatures of every size and sort move about in an intricate dance. As light moves through water, it bends and twirls and casts seascapes into sharp relief. This body of work captures split seconds in the experiences of freediving and snorkelling, engaging the viewer by drawing them close with intricate textures and patterns. These works express the wonders of the ocean, prompting people to think about their understanding of marine life. Each piece is a linocut that has been hand-printed using water- or oil-based ink on paper.

Jennifer Huebert is a visual artist and archaeologist living in Auckland. Her approach to printmaking blends traditional and newer techniques including linocuts, monotypes, and collage. Jennifer’s current works document the vibrant conversations that occur between light and motion in our world. She has a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design (USA, 1991) and a PhD (Auckland, 2015) in archaeology.
