Ilinx – A temporary disruption of perception (2020 – 2021) is a series of Sci-fi/Fantasy paintings that explore the connotations of Pop Surrealism.

These works offer an insight to childhood memories of imaginary and fairytales that underpin the connection between each piece. Each work was created from a mouldable “blueprint” or sketch of these recollections then developed further with popping candy-like blues, purples and pinks that brought the memory to life. “I believe when a memory is triggered, a temporary disruption happens to our perception of reality and the experience is almost out of this world or feels very outlandish. This is where the small figure comes in with his companion to guide you through the adventure of these unknown or known echoes in this surreal world.”

Sam Eva is a painter who lives and works in Hamilton, New Zealand. She completed her Bachelor of Creative Industry in visual arts at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology, Tauranga, winning the Young Artist of the Year award in 2016. Having completed her Honours Degree at Waikato Institute of Technology in 2018, she is currently undertaking her Masters which she aims to complete in 2021. Whilst studying, she also works part-time as an art teacher at Excite Arts Academy where she teaches young future creatives.
