Life Drawing, but not as you know it.

This is a class asks you to be mindful and present. It’s both challenging and freeing if you are open to it. Based on the teaching methods of Cecil Collins, a British artist who challenged his students to work from a place of mindfulness focusing on energy, rhythms, masculine, and feminine marks. Ralph Hotere studied under Cecil during his time in London. His figure drawings exemplify Cecil’s non-analytical approach to drawing.

This course follows Cecil’s teaching techniques as I was taught by one of his students while living in London. We will use media often associated with Chinese brushwork, employing both hands, the mouth and the foot and often working at speed to eliminate the tendency to anticipate the outcome.
Are you ready to experience something uniquely different in your art practice?

This class will run from Monday, Nov. 15th to Monday, Dec. 13th. from 12 noon to 2:30 pm. The class time is to make it possible for gold card members to take advantage of the free buses. We offer a 15% discount to seniors. The sessions are $60 each and while it's not a drop in class you do not need to attend every session. Just please get in touch before the first one so we can give you the introduction or materials and process so you are prepared when you do arrive.

We have a Thursday evening session as well. 6 to 8:30pm.
