Matariki/Māori New Year marks a time of renewal and celebration, acknowledging the past, embracing the year ahead and re-connecting to Te Taiao/the natural world.
Join us at Mahi Yoga for an embodied experience of Matariki. Bathe yourself in beautiful artwork, Oro Whakataurite/sound healing and Matauranga Māori/Māori wisdom.
We will welcome the art of acclaimed Māori artist Natasha Keating (Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Ngāi Tūhoe, Te Āti Haunui-a-Pāpārangi) to the studio with mihi whakatau/formal welcome and kōrero/artist talk.
Then we move to the mat where Amy Bassett (Ngāi Tūhoe, Rongo Whakaata, Ngāti Porou) will relate the story of Matariki through a 90-minute yin practice, with Hira Marie (Ngati Wai, Ngati Manu, Ngati Kahu, Ngati Hineamaru, Ngati Hau, whangai ki Kai Tahu) helping to create a space of connection through the sounds and vibrations of Oro.
There will light kai afterwards and a chance to meet others and share your experiences and thoughts.
Yoga mats will be provided for your yin practice.
