The Department of Conservation proudly presents our Matariki Tauranga Moana 2021 Event hosted with Café Scientifique. Doors open at 6:30pm for a 7pm start to the presentation
Matariki, Mātauranga Māori and Modern Science, Special guest presenter Thomas (Tame) Malcom – Tame is an award-winning environmental scientist that can speak with mana to the cultural connections, collaborations between indigenous practices and western science. Thomas (Tame) Malcom Current role as Kaihautu / Director Te Putahitanga Tame has spent the last few years as operations manager for Te Tira Whakamataki which enable him to work with Māori communities. Thomas (or Tame) is a descendant of Te Arawa whānui and Ngāti Ruanui. Born and raised in Rotorua and has been fortunate to have been raised learning Te Reo me ōna tikanga.
Café Scientifique is a forum to raise awareness of science. Café Scientifique Tauranga has been going since 2005 and holds at least 8 presentations per year with a mix of academic and industry topics and hosts some international lecture tours. Venue request Koha for tea, coffee and cake available
