Whangarei based artist and educator, Megan White is a recent MFA graduate from Whitecliffe School of Art and Design. Plants/Gardens/Vistas - Developing Artificial Environments is a collection of works developed over her recent journey through the MFA program. The Yvonne Rust Gallery is thrilled to present this body of work to Northland, showcasing graduate talent homegrown in Whangarei. Opening Friday, April 9, 5.30 pm, until Saturday 1 May.
Vision and Concept: The suburban development of the land that surrounds her home, both within its boundaries and beyond, is the key concept that underpins Megan's practice. Her interest in nature's various forms; gardens, green spaces, scenic reserves, and how these colliding spaces make up the backdrop of her daily life. Through the collection of plant specimens, recording both the land and its flora by way of varied mark and the application of an artificial colour palette, her work aims to foreshadow a developing version of nature existing within suburbia and beyond. Her practice explores what is in existence and what is yet to be developed within New Zealand’s changing landscape.
