Three brothers gather back at their family farm – it’s the first time in fifteen years they’ve been home together. Their mother has passed away. For Frederick, it’s a painful return to his past; Martin is happy to be back, but also ready to move on; Reuben has looked after the farm since Dad died, and it is the only world he knows.
Mum’s Kitchen is the story of three brothers dealing with memories of home and their relationships with each other – at a time, when cold-hard logistics of a funeral and settling an estate come into contact with immense emotional upheaval and change. Most of all, it is about the different ways, we try (and sometimes fail) to say goodbye to those who mean the most to us.
Showcasing the extraordinary vocal talents of international star Nic Kyle and leading New Zealand singers Kyle Chuen, Scot Hall, and Julia Booth,Mum’s Kitchen is an intimate and heartwarming two-act musical written by David Sidwell, Nick Braae, Kyle Chuen, and Jeremy Mayall.
Following the premiere season of the first act in 2019, this season presents the full narrative, while still revelling in the tension, drama, and humour that comes from three brothers being around each other under the one roof.
