The third New Zealand Walking Summit in Wellington on 24 and 25 June 2021 will focus on some of the key issues for 2021 and beyond, including the Climate Change Commissions wero (challenge) to increase walk mode share by 25% by 2030, and the big shake up happening in our planning laws which we expect will lead to more pedestrian-centric development. This will be a stimulating two day in-depth look at the issues and solutions including walkshops.
Speakers include the Minister of Transport, Climate Change Commissioner James Renwick, city managers, thought leaders and a diverse host of walkers. The three walkshops will look at green space and cultural elements, the trip to school, and accessibility. There is plenty of opportunity for presentations, panel discussions and networking.
At Living Streets Aotearoa, we imagine a future Aotearoa where sustainable, thriving, pedestrian-friendly communities are the norm, and getting from A to B by foot or wheelchair is a joy. To realise this future, we need sustained action in our communities, councils, government and beyond. Let's find the path forward.
