Poetry at Your Place feat. Scott-Patrick Mitchell

Come join us at New Zealand's only regular online poetry event with a seemingly wholesome but utterly ridiculous community - this Sunday for our much loved open mic, with poets performing from all over the world, and feature session!

This time with a 20 minute set from Australian poet, Your Place Grand Slam Finalist and fabulous human with such an impressive list of accolades than I don't which one to highlight: Scott-Patrick Mitchell!

For those that aren't familiar with Scott-Patrick's work, their bio reads like this:

Scott-Patrick Mitchell (SPM ) is a queer non-binary poet who lives and writes on Whadjuk Noongar Land in Western Australia. They’ve been published widely in journals across Australia and appear in such anthologies as Contemporary Australian Poetry and The Fremantle Press Anthology of Western Australian Poetry. SPM has won a few literary awards - including being shortlisted for The International Googie Goer Prize and Red Room Poetry Fellowship, and has toured Australia as a performance poet

They even once did a one-person show called THE 24 HOUR PERFORMANCE, which is exactly as it sounds. In March 2022, SPM will release – via Upswell – their first full-length poetry collection, Clean.

For Your Place this Sunday, SPM wants you to open your heart and grab your car keys. Join them as they guide you through the spectral sprawl of suburbia, past ghost cities, through aching forests, right up to the edge of Indian Ocean where, together, we will watch the rise and crash of queer love in all its brilliance. This is poetry that embraces the breath of the planet as it breaks toward either orgasm… or cataclysm.

SPM lives with two black cats, Beowulf and Bones. It’s unsure if they will make an appearance (we’re negotiating with their agents) but hey, you never know unless you go… to Your Place.

Note: Your Place is an intentional safe, accessible space where hate speech and offensive language and images will not be tolerated - and will be immediately met with a ban from our moderators.

As always, this event at Your Place is pay-what-you-can-afford, because finances should not be a barrier to art. HOWEVER, if people do not honour that trust system then this event becomes unsustainable and cannot continue so if you can afford it, please do – the money goes towards paying our artists and keeping this whole thing up and running.

And if you cannot afford anything, still come along and enjoy the poetry with my blessing (though do please help us out by sharing the event and getting some other folks along – that’d be amazing!) – we believe in human kindness at Your Place, so hopefully, someone who can afford it will pay a bit more and cover you.
