The portrait painting course aims to teach the fundamentals of painting a face. This is a beginners course mainly focusing on learning about facial proportions and how to correctly position the features - as well as how to fix things when they go wrong!
The course has a strong focus on building student confidence and is aimed at those with little or no experience who would just like to have a go. It also serves as a primer for subsequent portrait courses. There's no doubt that portrait painting is definitely hard, but the aim here is not to end up being able to paint a masterpiece, just to try to dispel "there's no way I could do that" feelings!
In this lesson, students learn about the basic proportions of the human head. In the first half of the session, they create a simple front-facing head with nominal features. The aim is to unlearn what they think they know about where the features sit on the disc of the face.
There are no specific equipment requirements for the course, just bring yourself. We do suggest old clothes as painting can be a messy business. Feel free to bring a notepad and pen in case you want to take notes, but we'll provide all the equipment that you need for the course: Brushes, Canvas board, A rag for those little mishaps, Turpentine
Payment is required before the class starts. and can be:
- On the day the price will be $35.00 - and places will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis
- By bank transfer - account details will be included in the email you receive upon booking.
