The 2021 Speech Awards, for year 11 to 13 students. The speech topic this year is Kia kotahi te hoe – Paddle as one. The diverse peoples of the earth are all part of one race – the human race. Supporting race unity means understanding that all people have a role to play in eradicating racial prejudice and injustice. Our experiences of race differ widely, yet we are all responsible for dismantling racism and building unity. For 20 years the Race Unity Speech Awards have opened the way for students to share their vision for race unity, and for 20 years the youth of Aotearoa have taken up this challenge with eloquence and courage. So, what will you do to move the waka of humanity forward towards race unity?
Initiated by the New Zealand Bahá’í Community in 2001 in support of Race Relations Day (21 March.)
