Did you know that only one planet in the Solar System has been invaded by robot geologists? James Scott, Associate Professor in Geology at the University of Otago, will talk about how much we know about Mars, from its interior to the volcanic crust to the water-worn surface, and how we actually know about the geological processes that have operated on this distant planet. He will outline some of the details surrounding the latest missions, and bring some Martian meteorites that people are welcome to hold.

Bio: James Scott is an Associate Professor in Geology at the University of Otago. He is currently President of the Geoscience Society of New Zealand, and led the Otago Branch of the Royal Society of New Zealand from 2017-2019.
