Free Science Talk:

The Hikurangi subduction zone is New Zealand's largest and most active fault, stretching offshore Gisborne down to the top of the South Island. Join us to hear the latest Hikurangi subduction zone science and hazard impact information from Dr Caroline Holden and Kate Boersen. They will also be plenty of time for questions.

Recent science suggests the likelihood of a Hikurangi fault rupture may be higher than initially understood.

We now know a Hikurangi subduction zone earthquake and tsunami could unfold in many ways and the reality is, it's not a matter of if, but when.

While we can’t predict when earthquakes will occur, scientific research has shown that the Hikurangi subduction zone has a history of generating large earthquakes and tsunami.

Join us to hear the latest Hikurangi subduction zone science and hazard impact information from Dr Caroline Holden and Kate Boersen. They will also be plenty of time for questions.

Your local emergency management advisor, Renee Corlett, will also be there to answer any questions you might have.

Everyone is welcome to this free public event kindly funded by Earthquake Commission (EQC).
