Whether you’re a seasoned songwriter or are looking to put pen to paper for the first time, come along for a conceptual sharing that will help us all grow as creators. As always, there is no wrong or right so it will be less of a ‘how to’ and more of a sharing of perspectives and a group creation workshop, so bring your brains, instruments or maybe something your working on (if you like!)

The workshop will include 3x break-away groups working more closely with Rose, and Bonnie and Pete (of Good Habits):

-- Rose Northey - Wanting to delve into lyric writing and language in your songs? Discover some new techniques and investigate your writing.

Rose is a multi-award-winning Performance Poet, and Illustrator currently haunting the streets of Karori, Wellington. Her writing focuses on elevating mundane experiences into theatrical emotional rollercoasters. In 2021 she has sworn to only perform poetry written this year so expect something fresh and hopefully not too raw.

--Bonnie Schwarz - Vocalist-cellist-songwriter. How do your melody and lyrics work together? Try new ways of exploring how these connect.

--Pete Shaw - Multi-instrumentalist- songwriter. What's the relationship between your lyrics and accompaniment? How we can diversify our harmony writing.

Good Habits create folk-infused music that test the limits of their traditional instruments, maintaining folk roots of musical storytelling amongst their energetic, virtuosic playing. Their songs tell stories of their adventures, blending trad folk with a warm yet quirky jazz-indie influence.

During their past year in New Zealand, Good Habits have performed alongside a line up the country’s top acts including Nadia Reid, Ria Hall and Lost Tribe Aotearoa and were winners of the Purbeck Folk Rising Award. The release of their debut album, ‘Going For Broke’, gained them shining reviews in Songlines, appearances in National Paper NZ Herald, and a tight tour schedule including performances at New Zealand’s largest festivals: CubaDupa, TSB Festival of Lights, Resolution and many more.
