It’s the season finale and champions are set to be crowned when the Speed Works Motorsport NZ show comes to Taupo.

It’s the first time in a while championship motorsport has been to Taupo, and with every championship concluding this weekend, it’s going to be a thriller.

There’s something for everyone at this race meeting and it’s a great chance to get out with the family without any COVID restrictions and enjoy some of the best cars, battles and categories in New Zealand Motorsport.

NAPA Central Muscle Cars head the Speed Works bill once again and a new champion will be crowned at the Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park after an epic season which has seen the title battle swing one way and another. For the fans, the cars are really the stars in what is arguably the best muscle car field in the world today. A great turnout of 800 bhp plus machines is expected, with Angus Fogg in his iconic Boss Mustang and Andy Knight in his Starfire expected to star!

The Best bars Toyota 86 Championship has enjoyed one of its most closely fought championships ever and it will be a three way battle for the championship title at Taupo with an almost unbelievable seven points covering the top three after four closely fought rounds. It’s also the first time the championship has been to Taupo in four seasons, so there could be a few surprises as most of the field are new to the track in their Toyota 86s.

The TradeZone GTRNZ fields will be out in force once again for its season finale, with big grids expected in both their GT2/2 field and the GT3/4 field. There’s everything from sports prototypes, to Supercars, GT cars and home built specials in these amazing fields and they could be the fastest things at the track over the weekend.

The RYCO 24•7 V8 Utes conclude their season in Taupo too, with Paul Manuell leading the championship and aiming to retain his series title and the 1NZ on his Holden. The 400 horsepower Holden vs Ford battle is always a popular addition to the card and there is always plenty of action.

The MOTUL Honda Cup concludes at Taupo, and it’s another series going down to the wire with three drivers in with a shout of securing the championship. Chris Hughes is in second place currently, just five points down on the vastly experienced Greg Spark, but Hughes has the momentum after a round win last time out at Pukekohe Park. There’ll be a grid of almost 20 cars and some fast laps so watching this weekend is a must for any die-hard Honda fan.

Single seater fans can look forward to an epic last round for the Hi-Q Components Formula First which will leave any motorsport or sports fan breathless with its close side-by-side slipstreaming and last gasp dash to the line. Chris Symon was very much ‘the man’ last time out with three wins won on the last corner last time out at Pukekohe. The closest racing in New Zealand? Formula First could certainly lay claim to that accolade.

The NEXEN TIRE Mazda Racing Series has been one of the big hits of the 2021 summer racing season with huge grids of screaming RX8s and a few RX7s thrown in for good measure. Set rules mean the cars are very evenly matched and the times are close from the first place to the last. That means great racing and we’re expecting plenty of that from the field in its final round this weekend.

A touring car grid and the mini enduro Rush Hour event complete the line up for a busy weekend of motorsport at Taupo. And don’t forget – kids 14 and under go free with a paying adult making it a great day out or weekend away for the family.

Make the most of your freedom and get into the thick of the action now!
