“Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd.”
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
Book by Hugh Wheeler
From an Adaptation by Christopher Bond
Witch Music Theatre presents a chilling new production of Stephen Sondheim's award-winning musical thriller. With its razor-sharp writing and spine-tingling score, Sweeney Todd takes audiences on a heart-palpitating ride through the twisted and darkly comic minds of its infamous characters and unforgettable music.
Sweeney Todd is a dark masterpiece. Born out of the ashes of tragedy, Sweeney Todd returns to London in search of his wife, daughter and revenge. With the assistance of the beguiling and eminently practical pie shop owner Mrs. Lovett, a delectable opportunity arises – genius and ghoulish in equal measure. Their pastries go down a treat, but Sweeney’s insatiable hunger for vengeance leads them perilously close to the razor’s edge.
Considered to be one of the most dramatic, powerful and theatrical stories ever orchestrated.
Sweeney Todd is devilishly funny and deliciously clever.
Joining Witch Music Theatre is West End Music Director, Mark Dorrell.
Dorrell opened Sweeney Todd at the National Theatre of London in 1993, as well as the UK premieres of Sondheim’s Into The Woods (featuring Imelda Staunton) and Assassins (directed by Sam Mendes). The formidable Chris Crowe will be starring as Sweeney Todd. Crowe has appeared in numerous iconic roles across national musical productions of Phantom of the Opera (The Phantom), Chess (Anatoly), Evita (Juan Perón), and Jesus Christ Superstar (Judas & Pilate).
