Come along to an illustrated talk by author Annette Lees who will discuss many watery tales in this special event for Kenzie's Gift, timed to coincide with our Winter Swim Challenge!
During a year of swimming outdoors every day, Annette discovered that New Zealanders have a special passion for swimming in our rivers, lakes, sea, estuaries and creeks. In her book Swim, Annette has collected our stories of taking a dip - of urban swims, brave swims, big swims, famous swims, forbidden swims, and lost swims.
Swim was long listed for the 2019 Royal Society's Non Fiction prize of the Ockham Book Awards and shortlisted for the PANZ book design awards.
Swim will be for sale on the night, with all profits going to Kenzie’s Gift to help us create a brighter future for Kiwi kids facing serious illness or grief.
Entry by koha on the door - cash, online credit card donation, or bank transfer- for contact tracing purposes, please register online (it's free!) for a ticket via Eventfinda before attending and show your ticket when you arrive.
**Please note - no EFTPOS facilities available on the night**
About Kenzie’s Gift
Kenzie’s Gift is an Aotearoa New Zealand charity dedicated to helping young Kiwis and their whānau affected by serious illness or grief. Our vision is to ensure no young Kiwi faces serious illness or grief alone.
About the Winter Swim Challenge
Nic Russell is the founder and CEO of Kenzie’s Gift. She’s a cancer survivor and bereaved māmā who lives with Parkinson's and a degenerative heart condition, cardiomyopathy. In 2020, she launched her Winter Swim Challenge – for 30 days straight throughout winter, she went for a bracing ocean swim. We raised a whopping $16,000.
This year, our goal is to double it and we’re asking all New Zealanders to join in!
