New Zealand Bush Textures - From Design to Tapestry - suitable for participants who have some previous tapestry weaving experience.

In this workshop, you will design a small tapestry inspired by the lush textures of our New Zealand native bush. The starting point will be a photograph of the bush. Then working through to a drawing of your own interpretation, similar to the one here that will be used as your tapestry weaving template, Marilyn will guide you through this design process.

Next comes learning the most successful way to warp a tapestry frame loom, then weaving the tapestry inspired by your design. You will be taken a step further from the plain weave structures that you will have learnt in previous workshops into the textures created by new tapestry techniques such as soumak, French knots, and weft wrapping.

Everyone will work at the own level and pace and you will be able to complete the tapestry at home if you do not complete it during the workshop. A frame loom will be provided along with a selection of colourful yarns enabling you to continue weaving.

All materials will be supplied, though you are welcome to supplement with your favourite personal fine yarns. A $10 small materials fee payable to the tutor on commencement of the workshop to cover materials.
