The Incubator Creative Hub is proud to be welcoming this exhibition during the calendar of Matariki Tauranga Moana events.
Te Iwa o Matariki / The nine of Matariki - An exhibition by Michelle Estall.
A series of circular paintings, each depicting a star within the Matariki cluster, and a representation of its meaning. Created for this years theme for the Matariki Tauranga Moana festival - Maramataka/The Lunar Calendar.
Michelle Estall is a visual artist of European, Croatian and Māori (Te Rarawa and Te Aupōuri ) descent. Through the act of creating artwork she explores her Māori heritage and expresses the learning journey that she is on. Currently in her second year studying Te Ara reo Māori she is focusing on painting imagery that references themes or topics that they cover in their studies, helping to reinforce the learning. "My hope is to create artwork that tells a story."
On display in The Incubator Gallery from June 12th to the 3rd of July.
Opening event on Friday the 11th of June, 5-8pm, at The Incubator Creative Hub.
