Following their epic journey through the Art of Fugue and the Dhammapada, The Capital Band returns with a concert of string music from Eastern Europe. On 10th April, Wellington’s most out-of-the-box classical music ensemble will perform works by Arvo Pärt, Janáček, and Bartók in an eclectic programme of passion, beauty, and virtuosity.

The Band is an innovative and exciting group of younger semi-professional, amateur, and non-fulltime musicians and comprises current and former members of Orchestra Wellington, the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra, the New Zealand School of Music, and various other ensembles in the greater Wellington region.

All of The Band’s concerts in their 2021 season will take place in the gorgeous Vogelmorn Hall in Wellington and - fair warning - each of the four gigs will be a little different in terms of process, seating (or lack of *), and lighting.

You can bring your own blankets, cushions, drinks, and friends and there will be free admittance, with koha entry for those of you who would like to support the Band financially. You are also able to help The Capital Band to become 'carbon neutral' in 2021 by gifting a native tree to the Band's registry at Trees that Count:

The programme will be as follows:

6.45pm Doors
7.30pm Pärt Summa
7:40pm Janáček Suite for Strings
8.05pm Interval
8.20pm Bartók Divertimento

* There will be seats available for those that do not wish to stand or enjoy the floor. Please send an email to thecapitalband.wellington@gmail.com if you would like a seat reserved or any other assistance in attending the gig.
