This month’s Thirst for Knowledge is the day after the 150th birthday of Ernest Rutherford, whose famous experiments revealed the atomic nucleus. To celebrate Rutherford’s sesquicentennial, Professor Niels Kjærgaard from the Department of Physics will discuss just how far we've come since Rutherford's work, including the mind-blowing effects of quantum mechanical identity, and how his work using Otago’s ultracold atom smasher has advanced our understanding of atomic processes.
