Amokura Glass

We are thrilled and honoured to have the incredible Jan Simpson, from Koru Arts in UK, lead our Weekend Leadlight Workshop. This weekend workshop is ideal for anyone keen to learn the basics of leadlight glass, aka stained glass.

In this workshop, you will learn how to make a leadlight window using traditional techniques. By the end of the weekend, you will walk away with your own leadlight window!

We start the programme looking at how to approach a design including measuring, cutting and handling glass safely. From there you will then select your design and colours, cut your glass to size, and learn how to surround each glass piece with lead. Once all the glass pieces have been fitted together with lead, you will then solder, cement and prepare your panel for the final step of polishing it.

Each day is 10 am - 4 pm, with a 30-minute break for lunch. Students are encouraged to bring a lunch,

Class size is limited to 6 people so Jan has enough time with each individual student. Classes must have 3 students minimum to run.

More About Jan Simpson

Jan has been running her glass studio as Koru Arts Glass for the last 12 years. New Zealand born and raised in Asia, Jan takes her inspiration from memories of her travels and also from her surroundings. Now based in Sussex Coast, UK, Jan spends many hours walking on the local beaches and in the cottage garden behind her studio. Her new range of pieces draw on these local scenes a great deal.

Jan uses more then one technique to produce her work and often incorporates traditional stained glass painting, fused glass and leadlight into a single project. Her use of the torch to create inclusions in some of her recent work gives her the ability to add exquisite detail to her pieces.

Jan’s stained glass work can be found in private and public collections. Her most notable work being a series of windows produced for the St Frances of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Ascot, Surrey. From traditional stained glass to more contemporary fused glass, Jan produces a wide range of pieces from small items through to one-off commissioned pieces.
