Loss: The Impact of the First World War Nationally and in Otago and Southland
In recognition of Armistice Day, University of Otago Emeritus Professor Tom Brooking discusses the severe losses suffered by New Zealand soldiers, both Māori and Pākehā, in the first world war and the impact of such large-scale loss per capita.
Emeritus Professor Tom Brooking taught courses on New Zealand, Australian and environmental history, Victorian Britain, the First World War and comparative rural societies at the University of Otago for forty one years. He is the author of thirteen books, the most recent of which is a biography of Richard John Seddon, New Zealand’s longest serving Prime Minister.
Join us in the Toitū Auditorium following the 11am Armistice Day service at the Cenotaph, Queens Gardens.
