Tame your camera and release your creative talent!

Do you want to take better nature photos? This workshop will introduce participants to photographing flowers and plants in interesting and creative ways, considering both narrative and the practicalities of macro photography. Camera type is not important so come along with your phone or a DSLR.

Tutors: Alan Jolliffe is a retired horticulturist and has held senior positions in botanic gardens, parks and recreation, education, and heritage. He has a life-long interest in plants and nature. He is a keen amateur photographer of plants and birds in both gardens and natural settings. His photographs can be found on his Facebook page and other Facebook group pages. His philosophy is to use photographs to introduce different plants to a wide audience and encourage them to seek out these plants for gardens, parks and conservation. He uses both a mobile phone and a small travel camera for his photography. Nothing fancy.

Michael Coulter has been photographing flowers and plants for over 45 years, the photos often appearing in his plant catalogues and to record his show-winning chrysanthemum blooms. Michael is a retired nurseryman and horticulturalist and now has more time to photograph plants and flowers in their natural environment. He favours a Canon DSLR 70D camera with a 16mm – 300mm telephoto lens and a 100mm macro lens, either handheld or on a tripod. He believes that images should require little in the way of post-editing, relying on the quality of the initial plant or flower subject.
