Box of Birds

Award-winning theatre company, Birdlife Productions, have created this intimately scaled gorgeous puppet theatre show designed specifically for 3 to 6 years, including live music, interactive songs and the magical wonder of puppetry! Using tabletop puppets and lots of beautiful native bird puppets, the story follows young Peter and his Grandma who build a nesting box for Ruru – but Peter must learn to be patient and wait to discover who will eventually nest in his ‘Box of Birds’! The bird characters are familiar New Zealand locals and the story introduces young tamariki to the idea of supporting ngā manu and the different needs they may have. Kindergarten Teachers and Parents have been delighted by this show and hundreds of little children around New Zealand have been transfixed by it. It goes without saying that, in this high-tech fast-paced digital world, offering young tamariki a counter to ‘screen time’ allows them the space in ‘real-time’ to watch, listen and reflect.
