Choose Your Own Climate Action Adventure During Climate Action Week!

Kia ora Friends,

We are writing to you about an exciting new event from The Nelson Tasman Climate Forum.

Climate Action Week is a collection of climate-focused actions and events spread over the course of one week (4-11 June).

Hosted by the Nelson Tasman Climate Forum, Climate action week is offering a range of experiences and opportunities for people to learn, connect and act. The event is the first of its kind for the Nelson Tasman Region and aims to make climate action more accessible, and encourage people to get involved in some of our climate actions or come up with their own ideas. The week-long event is inspired by and timed to follow the delivery of the first Emissions Reduction Plan due later this month.

There’s something for all ages and all walks of life in this week that aims to raise awareness and also equip people with some solutions to the crises our planet faces.

Highlights include:

- A nationwide postcard writing campaign which was the inspiration behind Climate Action Week - we’re encouraging people the length and breath of NZ to write to their MP’s voicing their support for the Emissions Reduction Plan.

- The How Dare You Arts Expo - a kid’s art expo and competition at The Refinery Art Space.

- Webinar and Q&A on sea-level rise and impacts for the Nelson Tasman Region by Victoria University of Wellington Professor and Sea Rise programme co-leader Tim Naish.

-The Eleventh Hour Cli-Fi Short Story Competition and Writer’s Workshop

- Climate Content Champion Workshop - learn to write compelling content and explore ways to get your climate message heard.

- A screening of documentary ‘Together We Grow’ - a story of urban farming, food resilience and empowering communities at the Pastorious Waller Theatre with a Q&A with filmmakers Antoinette Wilson and Jordan Osmond.

- A panel with Nelson City Council and Tasman District Council about what they are doing around Climate crisis.

- Composting workshop with Waimarama Community Gardens.

There will also be workshops on various climate-related topics like biochar and neighbourhood resilience and more events being added to the website.
