A rare chance to see an elite croquet squad practice. The Macrobertson Shield is the top teams competition for Association Croquet.
In November our representatives will travel to Australia to take on, not only the Aussies, the current holders, but also England and the USA.
The Macrobertson Shield was established in 1925 as a competition between England and Australia; NZ joined in the 1930's and the USA
in the 1990's. Sir Macpherson Robertson was a highly successful business man and philanthropist.

Drop in and watch during the afternoon of Saturday 8th. Want to know more about this intriguing game
- sometimes described as a cross between chess, billiards and war? Email kelburnmcc@gmail.com for details of
our free Have a Go sessions.

For history of the Mac see the photos on the United Croquet club website:

The image of the woman player is that of Jean Jarden, a member of the Macrobertson
team in the 1960's.

Bryant, Chapman, Clarke, and Westerby know what it takes to succeed in this competition and bring with them a wealth of knowledge. They were members of the 2014 New Zealand team which won the MacRobertson Shield when it was last held in New Zealand.

Fordyce and Webby will be making their NZ AC team debut at the event, however neither lack experience on the world stage. Both have won the U21 GC World Championships as well as being members of the 2020 New Zealand GC team which successfully defended the Openshaw Trophy in Nelson prior to the pandemic.
