Teresa Goodin

***THIS TALK WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY 18 APRIL, IT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO MONDAY 2 MAY***

In this talk Teresa Goodin will give an introduction to Buddhist Psychology and Philosophy on Death and Dying including the 'Eight Stages of Death'. Teresa will also share some traditional Buddhist practices considered beneficial at the time of death.

According to the Tibetan Buddhist masters, death is a profound process that unfolds in eight stages. The first four stages are referred to as the outer dissolution which culminates in our last breath. At this point we are considered clinically dead, however, Buddhists believe that the death process continues with four more stages which are referred to as the inner dissolution, which usually lasts approximately three days after our clinical death.

Each of the eight stages is marked by outer signs and inner appearances or visions. Buddhists train to recognise these eight stages of dissolution so that they may face death with a calm and confident mind. By familiarising ourselves with the stages of death we can also support our loved ones to pass peacefully.

Teresa has studied Buddhist Philosophy and meditation in India, Nepal and New Zealand since 2005. In 2018 she completed an Apprentice Buddhist Chaplaincy and Peaceful Passing Course.
