Lisa Powers is a photographer and artist from New York.

Her current exhibition, “FICTIONAL MEMORIES” was inspired by the short, tragic life of WanRong, the last Empress of China and the end of the Ching Dynasty in the early 1900s.

Lisa was fortunate to be working for Art & Antiques magazine in New York and was photographing garments, furnishings and antique arts from the Beijing Museum for an issue of the magazine titled, “Untying The Forbidden Knot”.

This was the beginning of her fascination with WanRong and Imperial China. She photographed all the beautiful, heavily embroidered garments that had been made for Emperor PuYi, on a Chinese female model.

She created a photographic style that was similar to the style of the 1900s and printed the photographs on handmade Japanese Washi paper which added a softer vintage aged look to the photos.

She then framed the images in authentic vintage-style Chinese frames with decorative corner designs. The series has won many awards for Lisa Powers, including being selected as The Circle Foundation for the Arts ‘Artist of the Year’, a Silver medal from the New York Photographic Association, and Distinction Honours from The Royal Photographic Society, UK.

Limited Edition photographic Giclée prints on Archival paper are available for sale.
