Promoter Sam Rapira has announced Chris Masoe will headline the Crowded House Bar & Eatery Fight before Christmas fight night on December 2 – and he also has a treat for league fans.
Masoe says he is in it more for the fundraising side of the event than any career in boxing, but adds boxing is in his blood. He said when Rapira approached him about headlining an event, he was driven by the thought of boxing to support the Taranaki community.
Rapira, who brought his mix of professional and corporate boxing back to New Plymouth in May, has also signed up former Warriors and Melbourne Storm star Wairangi Koopu. Koopu, is itching to get into the ring after his bout in this years’ Fight for Life programme was scratched as opponent Keven Mealamu was forced out with a heart problem.
Fight before Christmas will include plenty of corporate bouts and also feature the long-awaited professional debut of New Plymouth’s Te Kapotai Tohu. Tohu will debut professionally as a cruiserweight.
