This important and inspiring film (2021) by Kathleen Gallagher explores the immense significance, value and diversity of wetlands in Aotearoa NZ.

Wetlands are so incredibly important - they are hotbeds of biodiversity, trap sediments running off the land, provide the best natural defence against floods and storm surges, and above all store carbon. To Aotearoa’s European settlers though wetlands were one of the country’s most maligned geographical features. Sadly only ten percent of the country’s wetlands remain today. But this film gives a story of hope, not loss. We meet tangata whenua, landowners, government agencies and an army of volunteers who are using mātauranga Māori and scientific knowledge to restore wetlands and inspire others to do likewise.
Discussion with local wetland experts will follow the screening.
Hosted by Local Matters, Motueka Branch of the Green Party of Aotearoa NZ.
Door sales only $10, students with ID free. Supper included
