Finding Faces in the Portrait Gallery
An Artistic Treasure Hunt with Jo Bone
Some of the early British settlers have wandered away from their frames!
Can you find them and draw them back in?
Armed with a worksheet, your challenge is to wander the Smith Portrait Gallery matching the names and empty frames and drawing the people back in using a fun, simple style.
Bring your characters to life with the magic of watercolour pencils. You can find out more about them from the info screens in the gallery or make up your own story about what happened following their arrival in Otago.
Lead by local artist Jo Bone she’ll offer encouragement and support as you sketch your way through the wonderful array of mutton chops, beards, smiling eyes, stern looks, hats and necklaces. Admire the newly arrived locals all dressed up in their fashionable best.
This activity is suitable for participants of all ages and skill levels.
