2022 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Gay Liberation movement in Aotearoa. Auckland Pride in partnership with NZAF and Rainbow Youth will be hosting some of our pioneering queer elders as we mark this anniversary together.
Hear from Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, Fiona Clark, and Chris Carter in a panel discussion facilitated by Auckland Central MP Chlöe Swarbrick as they discuss the significance of this milestone, some of the stories from the first few years of the movement, and what we can learn from those actions.
As we look forward, then hear from Tangaroa Paul, Catherine Anderson, and Meghan Collins in a panel discussion facilitated by Auckland Pride Creative Director Elyssia Wilson-Heti as they look to the next 50 years, what is yet to be achieved, and what the future of Pride could look like to them.
This will be an exciting opportunity to hear from some incredible thinkers in our community, and those who have been on the front lines of our movement in Aotearoa. We wanted to use the opportunity to mark the 50th anniversary of the start of the Gay Liberation movement by bringing our communities together to celebrate our shared whakapapa.
Both panels will have extensive time for questions and answers, along with an opportunity to kōrero with our panellists and each other over afternoon tea. Auckland Pride will also be launching a new exciting initiative ahead of the 2023 Auckland Pride Festival.
Vaccine passes will be required for this event, and mask-wearing is strongly encouraged.
