Handel Consort & Quire present their first major concert with orchestra since the great lockdown of August 2021. Belshazzar contains many exuberant and energetic choruses, dramatic recitatives, and a wide range of airs.
The plot centres around the heretical behaviour of Belshazzar who worships false gods and enjoys too much drinking and partying and upsets God. A mysterious hand appears above whilst he is carousing and writes some unknown characters on the wall which causes great fear.
His life is taken for his actions and the Jewish people celebrate the triumph of their God.
